Country / Rural / Regional patients
Country patients! We doctors love taking care of you folks - down-to-earth, tough as nails and easy-going.
Unfortunately, there are no options for retinal surgery out in country Victoria.
So what happens if you happen to need retinal surgery?
I understand that travelling those distances to Melbourne isn’t on the top of your wish list, and thus would like to minimise the trips to Melbourne and to make it as seamless as possible.
My current suggestion is
-
You get reviewed by your friendly neighbourhood optometrist, who picks up the issue.
-
This is then discussed with me (i.e. get them to contact me, I'm always happy to correspond directly with optometrists!)
-
A referral is made to Box Hill Vision Eye Institute where I work. We will ring you to organise a consultation with me that suits your schedule.
-
We have a consult and chat, during which I’ll do my best to answer all your questions about the surgery and aftercare.
-
If we decide to go ahead, I’ll be able to fit you in for surgery on-site, on the same or next day (there are a few nice hotels and motels around the area! One of them is literally 10 metres from the day surgery).
-
After surgery, you stay overnight in one of these hotels and have a good meal.
-
I see you early the next morning, and following this you can head back home to the wide open spaces.
-
Your future follow-ups will be mostly with your local optometrist, with the occasional visit to Melbourne to see me.
*Dear optometrists, I'm always very happy to communicate directly with you via my personal email or phone number. Please send me a message via my website or contact my practice to get my contact details. I would be delighted to organise a shared-care plan with you for the benefit of our patients.
